Age at Onset in Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia has been present throughout recorded history and is found in all societies. Prevalence rates seem to be slightly lower in developing countries (0.5%+) than in developed countries (1%). This means that there are currently approximately 45 million sufferers around the world.Peak ages of onset are slightly earlier for males (late teens and 20s) than for females (20s and early 30s).
