Welcome to the Psychiatry Portal

To be too conscious is an illness - a real thoroughgoing illness. | Fyodor Dostoevski

Welcome to the University of Southampton online portal for Psychiatry. Here you will find resources to support your learning in your clinical placement.

Get learning!
We would recommend you work through the resources in addition to attending your placements. It will help you to identify any gaps in your knowledge and skills. You may identify things you may wish to ask your clinical supervisors or tutors about, read more about or practice in placement.

Access the mental health trust's medications information leaflets for information about medications you see on placement.

Get Involved!
For those considering a career in psychiatry or wanting to find out more about psychiatry as a medical specialty, we would recommend becoming a Royal College of Psychiatrists Student Associate (which is free). This also gives you information about clinical topics and national prizes. Here is a link to a booklet about careers in psychiatry.

Do let the teaching team know if there are any additional resources you would find helpful. We hope you enjoy the placements and find the portal helpful.
