Evidence for the Aetiological theories: Life Events

The “Kindling Hypothesis of Bipolar Disorder” suggests that when people with a genetic predisposition to developing Bipolar Disorder accumulate difficult experiences, their threshold for becoming ill is progressively lowered.

The most common life events which precipitate an episode of illness are:
