Illicit Drug Use

Illicit drugs are classed within the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 as A, B or C:

Class A drugs include:

Heroin, crack, cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, magic mushrooms,methylamphetamine (crystal meth)

Penalties for possession: Up to seven years in prison or an unlimited fine. Or both

Class B drugs include:

Amphetamines, Methylphenidate (Ritalin)

Penalties for possession: Up to five years in prison or an unlimited fine. Or both

Class C drugs include:

Cannabis, some painkillers, GHB (Gamma hydroxybutyrate), ketamine

Penalties for possession: Up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine. Or both
