Mild Tardive Dyskinesia

The patient’s face is fairly expressionless. The most prominent abnormality is the involuntary protrusion of his tongue. Tardive Dyskinesia typically first manifests around the mouth & tongue, but in more severe cases it can involve substantial parts of the body. The longer the duration of treatment with antipsychotic drugs, the higher the risk of developing this condition. People with chronic schizophrenia have in recent decades often smoked heavily – hence the nicotine-stained fingers.
