Unit 1: Principles of management
Summary
In this unit, you have learnt the WHO 10 steps to managing severe malnutrition, which are divided into two phases: stabilisation and rehabilitation phases. The 7 steps in the stabilisation phase are to treat and prevent hypoglycaemia, hypothermia, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, micronutrient deficiencies, infections and to start cautious feeding. The steps in the rehabilitation phase are to achieve catch up growth, provide sensory stimulation and prepare for discharge and follow-up

In Unit 2 you will learn how the hospital and community-based services work together to provide an integrated approach to malnutrition management.

Go back to the Unit menu page and continue to the Unit assessment to test your knowledge. Once you finish the Unit assessment, start Unit 2.
