Course: Caring for infants and children with acute malnutrition
Page 7 of 8
Introduction
Many malnourished children are dying unnecessarily, either because their condition is overlooked or because their treatment is inappropriate. If treatment is inappropriate, mortality among severely malnourished children can be as high as 50%. But with correct and vigilant treatment, recovery can be rapid and mortality low. How about your experience with assessing and treating malnourished children?

It is important for you, with responsibility for the care of malnourished children, to be competent in assessing malnutrition and giving the correct treatment.
