How does insulin change in type 1 diabetes?

There are two main types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes (insulin is not produced or has reduced concentrations), and Type 2 diabetes (body is resistant to actions of insulin).
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition - this means that the body attacks itself instead of attacking infections and other invading objects. The body's immune system destroys the β cells in the pancreas.
