Longer term, if diabetes is uncontrolled for a number of months to years, Carlos will be at increased risk of heart disease (myocardial infarction, angina or heart failure), stroke, foot ulcers (with increased risk of amputation), eye problems (with increased risk of blindness), kidney problems and nerve damage.

It is very important to control the amount of glucose in the blood as much as possible.
