Glossary (L - M)Link – A reference to a document that the reader can directly follow, or that is followed automatically.

Mashup - A derivative work consisting of two pieces of (generally digital) media conjoined together. Examples are Music Mashup, Video Mashup and Web Mashup.

Malware (Malicious Software) – A program or file designed to specifically damage or disrupt a system, such as a Virus, Worm, or Trojan Horse.

Mention - Mentioning another user in a Tweet by including the @ sign followed directly by a username.

Metadata - A set of data that describes and gives information about other data.

MicroBlog - A short Blog post (sometimes sent from a mobile phone) typically containing around 200 characters.

MP3 - an audio file format, based on MPEG technology. It creates very small files suitable for streaming or downloading over the Internet.

Munchausen by Internet (MBI) - Individuals seeking attention online by playing out dramatic near-fatal illnesses alternating with recoveries that increasingly strain credulity.
