Facebook and social mediaIn 2013 the GMC published guidance on the use of social media [3], with a particular focus on explaining how doctors could put the principles from Good Medical Practice [4] and Confidentiality [5] into practice.

In Good Medical Practice [4], the GMC state:

• (36) You must treat colleagues fairly and with respect.

• (65) You must make sure that your conduct justifies your patients’ trust in you and the public’s trust in the profession.

• (69) When communicating publicly, including speaking to or writing in the media, you must maintain patient confidentiality.
