Introduction
In the previous pages, you have identified who require in-hospital treatment and who can be treated in the community. How do you think children with malnutrition should be managed?
Q. What is the recommended management of malnutrition?
a) If a child has SAM, he or she should always be treated in a hospital until he or she is fully recovered.
b) If a child has SAM with complications, he or she should be treated in the hospital. But once the child is stabilised, he or she can be treated in the community.
c) All children with SAM should be treated in the community.
d) It is best that a child with malnutrition is managed in one place throughout, either the hospital or community, to avoid confusion.
